Ivory Coast arrivals for 1 to 25 October were 122,453 t, 43 percent behind last year, yet ICE US cocoa stocks have risen by 676,000 bags since July to 3.69 million. In each of the last ten years they fell over the same months. With the warehouses filling, both markets slipped last week, and London closed at GBP 4,143.

October itself was a wide range with little net change: cocoa ended 1.6 percent higher in New York and 3.1 percent higher in London, after a range of up to 18 percent. Coffee lost its supports as Brazil’s real fell about 9 percent on Monday after Lula’s win and Brazilian coffee queued for grading; arabica fell 6.6 percent on the week and robusta reached a two-year low. The full edition covers arrivals, exchange stocks, positioning and the week ahead, including Barry Callebaut’s results on Wednesday.
