Lundy Intelligence · Commodities

Oil prices the war, grains price the harvest.

One was war, one was a crop report, one was inflation, and one was a trade deal. Only the first lifted prices.

The summary

Weekly Commodity Report · Edition 227

Fig. — Weekly performance to Friday 16 Oct 2026; ETF proxies shown lighter · Source: Barchart; Lundy Intelligence

Brent closed at $109.9, its highest since May, after at least nine vessels were struck near Hormuz from 11 October and flows through the Strait fell to roughly 70% of pre-war levels; WTI rose 10.4% as US stocks drew on the hurricane. Government stock releases calmed the panic, but not the price.

Everything else was priced off supply. The USDA lifted the US corn yield to 181.2 bu/acre and corn is down 11% on the month; a hot CPI made silver the worst precious metal again at −6.1%; copper slipped back under its 50-day average and uranium equities fell 9%. Six markets rose and sixteen fell. The full edition covers each market in turn, with the week ahead: Gulf shipping, China’s Q3 GDP, EIA stocks and LME Week.
